Claudia Paredes
from Spain
When we started working together
Claudia has been living in the Czech Republic for 4 years but still felt excluded from real every-day conversations at work and in her partner's Czech family.
What was holding them back
She understood a lot, but speaking felt difficult because she didn’t get enough regular practice.
She often forgot words and grammar in the moment, which made everyday conversations feel stressful. She avoided speaking more and people around her often switched to English.
Where they are now
With her partner’s mum, she now just starts talking in Czech without overthinking it. Her partner has noticed that her Czech has improved. At work, she no longer feels excluded from conversations, switching to English when she needs to while staying connected instead of disconnected.

Christine Ates
from Canada
When we started working together
Christine felt unsure speaking, especially at work. She needed Czech for professional trainings with doctors and nurses, but relied heavily on scripts and felt nervous when conversations went off plan.
What was holding them back
She had a strong grammar base, but not enough space to really speak and improvise. She compared herself to native speakers, felt she wasn’t good enough, and used Czech mostly passively through listening. This made her trainings feel stressful and exhausting.
Where they are now
Christine now feels more confident speaking Czech and less afraid of mistakes. She uses Czech more naturally at work, handles questions better, and feels calmer during trainings. Czech has become part of her daily life - something she enjoys, not just a work requirement.

Alana Levene
from the USA
When we started working together
Alana has been learning Czech for a year, but it still felt stressful and “far away” from her real daily life. She didn’t have many situations where she had to speak and got discouraged quickly.
What was holding them back
She had lessons and materials, but they didn’t connect week to week, so it felt hard to build momentum. Because she was busy and often tired, she didn’t practice speaking regularly. And when she tried, people often switched to English.
Where they are now
Alana found a simple and realistic study system and is integrating more Czech into her life, such as going to yoga classes in Czech. She feels more confident using what she already knows. Czech feels more manageable now, and she’s much kinder to herself about the process.

David Saraiva
from Portugal
When we started working together
As he says, "After five years in the Czech Republic, I could barely order food or say a few funny phrases."
What was holding them back
He kept trying to study from textbooks and make study plans, but always lost motivation and procrastinated. He was shy to speak, didn’t feel enough pressure to use Czech, and focused too much on understanding everything instead of actually speaking.
Where they are now
Instead of focusing on more textbooks and grammar, he started actually using Czech in real life. He began speaking regularly with Czech friends and at sports activities. Czech became fun again, his motivation returned, and he started using Czech naturally as part of his daily life.

Thomas Zeeh
from Germany
When we started working together
After one year of studying Czech, he felt stuck.
What was holding them back
His routine consisted of using a textbook, doing what he thought he should do, but he didn’t enjoy it much, and he didn’t feel like it was really working.
Where they are now
He feels much more motivated after discovering a new way of learning through activities he actually enjoys. He started speaking with Czech people and now approaches Czech completely differently — learning through topics that interest him.
He regularly joins our offline meet-ups, where he speaks Czech for hours, watches Czech TV, learns songs on the guitar, and follows news and politics in Czech. He’s no longer afraid to speak — and recently, as a lawyer, he even started offering his services to Czech clients.

Edward
from the United Kingdom
When we started working together
He had been learning Czech on and off for almost 10 years, trying books, apps, and courses, but never felt real progress. He lives in a Czech village, yet often stayed on the edge of conversations and didn’t feel part of daily life.
What was holding them back
He was learning Czech in a general way, without a clear connection to his real life. He didn’t have a simple system, felt overwhelmed, and didn’t know how to handle real conversations, which made him avoid speaking.
Where they are now
He focused on one clear goal: speaking with his neighbours. He built a simple system around real situations, started practising consistently, and now stays in Czech conversations without panic. He feels more confident, understands more, and finally sees real progress in his everyday life.

Samantha Sklenář
fromthe USA
When we started working together
Samantha felt a lot of fear around speaking Czech. Even in everyday situations, she often avoided speaking — not because of her Czech level, but because of the pressure and anxiety she felt.
What was holding them back
Fear was the main barrier. She didn’t feel comfortable speaking in real-life situations and often relied on her husband to translate. Conversations felt stressful, and she didn’t trust herself to manage them on her own.
Where they are now
Samantha feels much more confident and relaxed when speaking Czech. She now handles everyday situations like restaurants, shops, or conversations with her mother-in-law on her own. She understands much more and can have real conversations without panic. Czech now feels lighter, more natural, and even fun.

Ines Louda
from Germany
When we started working together
Ines was expecting a baby and felt anxious about giving birth in the Czech Republic. She lives in Prague, but Czech still made her feel like a tourist in her own life, especially in important situations like doctor visits.
What was holding them back
She was afraid of not understanding what was happening during medical appointments and at the hospital. This created stress and uncertainty in a moment where she wanted to feel calm, safe, and in control.
Where they are now
Ines focused on preparing for real-life situations around pregnancy and birth. Her Czech improved, but more importantly, her confidence grew. Weeks before giving birth, she felt ready, understood much more, and could express herself with more ease and calm. At the end, she handled the birth in Czech absolutely brilliantly.
