Do you ever freeze when someone speaks Czech to you?

My new clients often say things like:

“I'm smart in English, but in Czech, I feel like a small child.”

“Everything disappears when I try to speak.”

“When I get stuck, I panic and switch to English.”

The problem usually isn’t grammar.

It’s the stress, it's the pressure. It's not knowing what to do in the moment when communication breaks down.

For the past two months, I’ve been working with one client, and the progress he’s made is honestly incredible. He now speaks Czech with much more confidence and doesn’t panic when he gets stuck anymore.

And what helped him most were not complicated grammar explanations, but small practical strategies for real conversations.

Let me share them with you as well:

🟡 When you get stuck, ask for help

(Jak se řekne česky .....? Promiň, nerozumím. Ještě jednou, prosím. Pomalu, prosím.)

🟡 Slow down and restart the sentence when your mind goes blank

🟡 Don’t try to translate perfect English sentences - just convey the message using simple words you already know

🟡 Use small conversation connectors like “what about you?”, "Do you remember how I told you...", "Never mind" to keep the conversation moving

When learning to speak Czech, dealing with pressure is one of the most important things. Because once speaking stops feeling scary, everything else becomes so much easier.

If this sounds familiar and you want to finally change something, feel free to book a short strategy call with me and let's talk. I'd love to help.
